Compositor e produtor musical. Un dos principais representantes de teatro musical, da súa produción destacan Jesus Christ Superstar (1971), Evita (1976), Cats (1981), Starlight Express (1984), The Phantom of the Opera (1986) ou The beautiful game (2000). Recibiu un Oscar pola mellor canción orixinal (1997) e tres Grammys.
