Pintor inglés. Estudou na Royal Academy, onde coñeceu a W. H. Hunt. O seu estilo, nun primeiro momento académico (Seizing the Inca of Peru, 1846), orientouse cara á delicadeza e morbideza prerrafaelista (Lorenzo and Isabella, 1849, e Ophelia, 1852). Pertenceu á Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
